Who is more important, me or you?

I don't know if I am like every one else, but I am motivated to write posts to try and educate people reading to learn about the things that I find important. I don't have a lot of time to write, but know it is important to be helpful.

Write content for your your customer, not yourself.

Something that works for me is to keep in the back of my mind that when helping a customer with a question is that the response might become the basis for a blog posting.

When writing content for your blog write for your customer, not yourself. Use your posts to inform and educate. Consider the use of following...

  • Interesting heading - Instead of using a heading like "Example company can get your work done", consider saying "Outsource versus do it your self, do really have time to get it done right..."
  • Lists and details - Instead of listing what you do, try listing considerations in the context of your heading. For our example about outsourcing: details about why specialist expertise can make a difference and speed of turn around.
  • Practical example - Present a practical case study or example.
  • Call to action - Close asking your reader about how they can put what you are writing about into some form of action. At this point optionally detail about how you can help.

Another thing that you might find useful is different types of posts. If what you are discussing with your customers is useful, then share it. For example:

  • Resources - Links to resources (e.g. websites) that you find useful. After a client discussion think about resources that you have referred to (e.g. URLs, phone numbers, etc.).
  • Hints - Helpful hints that describe how to do something.
  • Blogs - More detailed posts that discuss a topic in detail.

Next time you are reading what you consider to be an interesting blog post have a look at how it is structured. Does the post talk about how good the person writing the post is or does it help the reader learn something?
